Announcing: WINNERS! of the Thrutu Button Developer Contest

The results are in, and we are happy to announce the winners of the Thrutu Button Developer Contest! After much deliberation, we chose the following button submissions that we believe showcase the potential of Thrutu as a platform for innovation and creativity:

1st Place – DropThru by Fahim Karim, Florida, USA

No more waiting to get in front of a computer to share files! This button lets you instantly send files from your DropBox account or SD card to the person you’re talking to on the phone. We love DropThru because it’s just plain useful. It’s also a cool example of a mashup button; it uses both the Thrutu and DropBox APIs.

2nd Place – Search & Share by Ritesh Mehandiratta, India

This button lets you look up a product in a store by scanning the QR code (or by text search) and then lets you share the web search results with the other caller by SMS. We love the idea of being able to look up product information in the midst of a phone call, and the next step for this button would be to include the capability to share interactively as well as through SMS.

3rd Place – CollPanel by Gonzalo Huerta-Canepa, Chile

CollPanel is a collaborative drawing panel, including backgrounds for playing games like Hangman and Boxes. This buttons demonstrates how developers can build web-based buttons to achieve a variety of different and creative features.

Congratulations to our three winners! Each will be awarded prize money – $3,000 for 1st place, $2,000 for 2nd place, and $1,000 for 3rd place. We’re proud of that fact that all three winners come from countries all over the world; goes to show that Thrutu is very much a universally useful app.
We’d also like to say thank you to everyone who submitted Thrutu buttons for the contest. There’s a Thrutu T-shirt heading to every entrant as a small token of our appreciation.

Our Developer Contest definitely sparked a wave of creativity, and the winning buttons and many more can now be downloaded to your phone from Thrutu Central. If you’ve been inspired with a new idea for a Thrutu button, you can share your idea with the Thrutu community on Facebook or Twitter – or check out the developer docs for how to build it yourself!
